Much has been said regarding the recent closure of online and nationwide chain Better Bathrooms amongst industry commentators. Their Glasgow branch was of course our nearest one although it’s fair to say their online presence like most larger online models provide us our biggest challenge. It’s never nice to see any business close and of course the loss of jobs is regrettable but does this tell us anything about where the industry and consumers are heading? The consensus of commentators is that any business ‘caught in the middle’ will have a challenging task. If you’re after lowest price and little to no personal touch, the larger online companies seem to have it all covered. But what if price isn’t your only consideration? Enter the independents. Quite simply we don’t look to compete with online companies at all – we recognise price is a big consideration, but we make it clear with our clients it’s not the only consideration. Our clients aspire for more than the lowest price – yes they generally want the best price but for a service and product that generally isn’t available online / through nationwide chains . In our opinion consumers are now beginning to understand the industry as well as us – if price isn’t the only consideration perhaps online / nationwide stores might not be the best option.
